SharePoint Saturday Munich 2015<\/h1>\n

I\u2019ve just come back from the inaugural SharePoint Saturday Munich and I have to admit I had a blast! The event was exceptionally well organised by Matthias Einig and Monika Baur from Rencore and from a speaker point of view it\u2019s probably one of, if not the best SharePoint Saturday events so far (And the others that I\u2019ve attended have been pretty awesome!)<\/p>\n

I think Matthias and the gang can be very pleased with themselves, especially with regards to the turn out of registered attendees. it\u2019s a well known problem that free events have a fairly high drop-out rate on the day, however SPS Munich achieved around 98% attendance which is phenomenal. This just goes to show that Germany was crying out for a SharePoint Saturday and many of the attendees that I spoke to were in awe of the event.<\/p>\n

I was up first after the keynote delivering my FAQ session that I\u2019ve presented around 4 or 5 times now and as with the others there\u2019s always some slight tweaks that you make either to the slides or during the demos. The main tweaks for me though were caused by the bizarre behaviour of the Save buttons not working on some of my list item pages, this meant that I had to drop back to the \u201cBlue Peter\u201d demo that I prepared earlier. (And that was definitely lost in translation as I had to explain about Blue Peter, sticky backed plastic and the one I prepared earlier!).<\/p>\n

After that I was able to relax for the day and attend a couple of great sessions. I decided to divide my time between IT Pro and Dev and spent time in Donald Hessings\u2019 SharePoint Performance Troubleshooting session where the key takeaway for me was understanding the impact of over provisioning CPUs in a virtual environment.<\/p>\n

After that I spent time listening to Andrew Connell introduce Node.JS, a technology that I\u2019ve only touched very briefly and need to take a look at in greater depth. Basically it\u2019s JavaScript on the server. Andrew is using it heavily now in App and Web development and he presented the session to his usual entertaining and high standard.<\/p>\n

There was of course a fair amount of eating and drinking involved and it was great to unwind with the other speakers at the TWO, yes two speaker dinners organised by Matthias. The first was 185 metres up in the Olympic Space needle on the Friday evening before SPS and then on the Saturday evening, we went to a traditional Bavarian Bierekeller, where we drank the entire contents of a large beer barrel whilst consuming a most excellent mixture of Bavarian cooked meats and vegetables! (And of course consumed more beer!)<\/p>\n

The London SharePoint Social<\/h1>\n

This Wednesday the 14th of October, the SUGUK is running a SharePoint Social night at the Old Star in Westminster. For those of you who\u2019ve been to the SharePoint Best Practices and Evolutions conferences by Combined Knowledge, you\u2019ll know that this is where the SharePint usually takes place for those events. We have one of the upstairs bars for the evening from 6:30pm and our lovely sponsors from Binary Wave, Lightning Tools, Application Performance and Metalogix are putting a sum of money behind the bar to pay for everyone’s drinks! There will also be giveaways from some of the vendors, including an awesome opportunity to spend a track day with Application Performance.<\/p>\n
